I created a scale BeachMap on the Prairie Club (PC) beach in Michigan in the summers of 2013 and 2014. I posted some images on the PC facebook page and it showed there was alot of interest from PC members that saw the rock maps on the beach. My goal is to fully develop this as a game/activity product suitable for kids and adults, individuals and groups. It gives you something fun and educational to do on the beach, helps you master the states of the U.S., sends you off down the beach looking for the right-sized rock(s), and gives you the final satisfaction of constructing a full map of the U.S. in the sand. It’s fun and makes you think!
Karen and I built a map of the United States out of rocks we found on the Prairie Club beach. This is what vacation is all about!
3-D Printing individual U.S. states
I found a nice U.S. map in the sketchp 3D warehouse. Then I found a sketchup plugin for converting .skp files to 3D .stl files. Then I can “cut” (trace) each individual state from the sketchup U.S. map to create each state’s own .skp file. Then I can convert each state’s .skp file to an .stl file to 3D print each state.
